Treasurer's Office - Deputy III/Bookkeeper

The Lancaster County Treasurer’s Office has an opening for the position of Deputy Treasurer.  This is a full-time position.  The successful applicant must be self-motivated, have good communication skills, both written and verbally; understand confidentiality; and flexibility in dealing with taxpayers.  The primary duties will include

  • day-to day activities for bank accounts including deposits and disbursements;
  • entry and/or reconciliation of numerical and/or financial data and the recording of funds to the General Ledger;
  • review financial and system reports for accuracy;
  • coordinates with the Treasurer to research and resolve financial discrepancies;
  • drafts financial documents and state reports;
  • participates in audits as needed;
  • assists with inquiries relating to receipts and disbursements;
  • performs related work as assigned

Knowledge of accounting procedures and automated systems required. Must be computer literate. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel is required.  Excellent mathematical skills, ability to analyze numerical data and maintain general ledger is required. Effective written and oral communication skills are required. Must know how to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.  Must be able to establish and maintain successful working relationships with office staff, government officials and the general public.

Previous bookkeeping experience is required. Banking experience is a plus.  Associates Degree or higher in Accounting preferred.

This position will also require the successful candidate to work towards certification in the Treasurer’s Association of Virginia which will include overnight travel to attend classes and conferences.

This position will be subject to a criminal records check and credit report; and a twelve-month probationary period.  This position serves at the will of the Treasurer.

This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary commensurate with experience.

Environmental Codes Compliance Officer

Lancaster County is seeking an Environmental Codes Compliance Officer to perform technical work for the County Planning and Land Use Office in the oversight and inspection of site development projects for compliance with the County’s Erosion and Sediment Control Ordinance, Wetland Regulations, Chesapeake Bay Preservation Ordinance, Stormwater Management Regulations, Zoning Regulations and Site Plan Requirements.  Work involves reviewing submitted applications, issuing permits, attending meetings, performing on-site inspections to ensure compliance with local program regulations and other duties as assigned.
