Parks and Pubic Access Sites

Lancaster County Parks Map Tour

Windmill Point - Westland Beach & Public Fishing Pier - NEWLY COMPLETED!

Location: The terminus of Windmill Point Road, follow signs to parking area.

The newly completed park includes a restored and expanded beach access on the scenic Rappahannock River and a large ADA compliant fishing pier. This public beach access will provide opportunities for sunbathing, swimming, paddling, nature gazing, and fishing. The park includes ample parking (50 spaces), foot washing stations, and an ADA compliant restroom facility. The park is open dawn to dusk. See beach and pier rules as listed below.

The park and fishing pier are free and open to the public. The County has purchased a saltwater recreational pier fishing license to cover those fishing from the pier, so individual licenses are not necessary.

Funding was made possible for this project from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) Small Watershed Grant (SWG), the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) BMP Implementation Grant and the Department of Conservation and Recreation Community Flood Preparedness Fund. A big thank you to our partners, The Windmill Point Marina, The Landing Owners Association and Friends of the Rappahannock. Friends of the Rappahannock will be conducting oyster reef restoration activities in the County oyster lease, located offshore, near the pier,  in the coming months. Fish cleaning stations are coming soon and wetlands vegetation plantings and dune plantings will be installed in the spring.
